Where can I find North WS Booms or Bases?
Both are available through our webpage or North dealers.
Boom compatibility with the sails?
At North, each boom is a one-of-a-kind innovation, meticulously engineered for unparalleled precision. Every detailβfrom outline to layup to material selectionβis uniquely crafted for its specific size and purpose. This approach ensures that every boom features a distinct construction, providing seamless compatibility with its corresponding sail range and delivering peak performance on the water.
Shim included and when needed?
The RDM shim is included with every NORTH boom, ensuring maximum compatibility with any rig.
Do our booms fit all masts Including SDM?
By removing the RDM adapter, our boom fits both MDM and SDM. For RDM, you need to use the adapter, which is delivered and installed on every boom.
Internal Adjustable Outhaul System?
Our Internal Adjustable Outhaul System is super easy to use, as long as your sail has two pulleys at the clew. If you donβt want to use the Internal Adjustable Outhaul System, it can easily be removed, and your boom features a cleat and pulley at the back, making it compatible with a fixed outhaul.
Using your booms on sails that only have an eyelet.
From 2025 onwards, each WAVE and X-over boom will be delivered with an extra stainless steel insert that allows you to use a loop-loop method for easy rigging on any brand of sail. This provides ease of rigging on our booms, so you can enjoy these amazing booms with any sail out there. For the 2024 booms, where this insert is not included, it will soon be available on our webpage or through your dealer as a spare part.
Some sails have two recommended masts, which is the best one for me?
Generally speaking the longer mast is stiffer, and the shorter mast is softer. The longer mast is better for larger riders, or those using the sail in more powered up conditions. The shorter mast is better for lighter and or average riders, who prefer using the sail in its sweet spot.
What is the bend curve of North masts?
Our masts are generally considered as βconstant curveβ, but there is quite some variation about what βconstant curveβ actually means across different manufacturers. There are no industry βrulesβ and there are different ways to go about achieving and measuring this constant curve. A different question is do I want to maximize the performance of my sail? If yes, the best choice is the manufacturerβs recommended mast around which the sail has been designed, for any windsurf brand for that matter.
Can I use mast X,Y or Z with my new North Sail?
Yes you can, we canβt stop you. However,Β if you want to maximize the performance of your sail, and replicate what was designed in the first place, the best choice is the manufacturerβs recommended mast around which the sail has been designed, for any windsurf brand.
How do I repair my sail?
These sails are extremely durable, as there are no films, no seams, and only Dyneema Aramid Tapes and Adhesive. In the first instance, we would be very surprised if you damage your 3Di sails, at least in the sailβs body, even if you break a mast or are dragged across the reef or rocks.Β
However, if you do damage the 3Di sail body, small holes can be fixed temporarily with a strong adhesive duct tape, so at least you can keep on sailing while it is windy. Keep some in your gear bag. Beyond that, a repair kit will be available, and you should contact your local dealer to get one.
If you damage the window, this can be replaced very easily by your local sail repairer, and as per any other sail. Because of the many different layers and directions of fiber tapes in a 3Di sail, the sail holds stitching exceptionally well.Β
