Wing size depends on rider weight, wind strength, foil size, board volume and riding level. Smaller wings are better for stronger wind and lighter riders, while larger wings are better for lighter wind, heavier riders and early progression.

Wing foiling uses a handheld inflatable wing and a foilboard, with no flying lines or control bar. Kiteboarding uses a kite, control bar and lines to generate power.
