North takes double podium at Red Bull Megaloop 2025
After one year without a Megaloop it was time again. A proper storm hit the Dutch coast and delivered a day full of action.
After one year without a Megaloop it was time again. A proper storm hit the Dutch coast and delivered a day full of action.
For the 2025 Red Bull Megaloop there was a new format, rule changes, and a new venue. Head-to-head heats, maximum 18 meter lines, and in front of the North HQ in Noordwijk. This event puts the best riders in the world in the worst conditions. Cold water, messy waves, a lot of current, and super strong wind. What is different for this competition is that one trick can win you the heat, whereas in other competitions you need to ride the perfect heat to win. This means that you are never safe, even if it feels like you are controlling and leading the whole heat, a big trick in the final seconds can be enough fr your opponent to beat you. This meant high expectations for a day filled with action. With five riders in the fleet, North was the best represented brand of the competition.
Cohan showed his trademark power and control to take third place in the menβs final with a score of 8.06. Performing on home soil, he proved his ability to deliver under pressure in rough conditions. He decided to go for more power and style instead of pure technical difficulty. One of his standout tricks of the day was his kiteloop board-off at 24 meter height, with beautiful style and a super aggressive kite angle. He had some close heats throughout the event, but had a good competition and ended on the podium for the second Megaloop in a row.
βIβm so happy! I was lit on the 7 Orbit 2026, and I couldnβt have asked for a better final!β
- Nathalie Lambrecht
Nathalie wrote history by finishing second in the first ever womenβs division at the Megaloop on the new Purple Orbit 2026. Her massive Boogieloop (a kiteloop with an inverted front rotation) in round one was the highest womenβs score of the day with a 7.58, and set the bar for the future of the event. She decided to go as powerful as possible, riding a bigger kite, which allowed her to go even higher. A heavy crash in the final cost her valuable time drifting downwind, yet she still delivered an outstanding performance. Not only Nathalie, but the whole womenβs fleet impressed the judges and the spectators. They showed that they can thrive in the crazy Dutch conditions and deserve to have their own division.
Jett went all in at this event. He had an emotional week, kept his head up, and did what he always does: put the kite as low as possible. Jett was riding with 14 meter lines to push the limits, having one of the best kite angles of all riders. He had a super strong heat in round two, and missed out on advancing by just 0.02, but his performance stood out for its grit and determination.
βThe conditions are really tricky! The current is super strong, the waves are really hard to find, and to time that with the right gust is pretty hardβ
- JosuΓ© San Ferreira
Francesca won the Red Bull King Of The Air at the end of last year, and going into this event she was the only woman to ever win a major. She was ready to go and claim her second major title, showed full commitment, but unfortunately had a big crash and didnβt make it into the final. She is now recovering well. JosuΓ© held his own in the heavy conditions, riding with composure and style. Flying in last minute from Brazil, the change in climate and the jet lag were not in his favor. He struggled to find his rhythm in the rough conditions and didnβt go as deep into the event as he wanted.
Overall it was a successful event for the North Team with five riders in the fleet, two podiums, and presence in both the menβs and womenβs finals.
