About Jakub
Jakub Komarek grew up in Prague, about as far from the ocean as a kitesurfer can be. The whole family took up the sport at the same time, and he was the one who fell hardest for it. What sold him was his first jump. The moment he lifted off the water, he knew this was something he wanted to chase. "I felt the feeling of flight for the first time. I was hooked."
These days his focus is freeride big air, and he points to two riders who have shaped the way he rides: Blake Olsen for smoothness and flow, and Oswald Smith for power and the ability to send it hard. Jakub sees his own riding somewhere between the two. "I ride freely and it looks flowy, but at the same time I have extremity and power." The work now is bringing those qualities together.
He signed with North and Mystic in April 2024, and rather than narrowing his attention, he's kept it deliberately broad: big air tricks, foiling, wave riding, and long trips to places he hasn't ridden yet. He likes that kiting can be all of those things at once. Cape Town is high on his list. Red Bull King of the Air is the event he's building toward.
At 15, he's only getting started.
