North Welcomes Alex Hayes to the International Team


We are beyond stoked to introduce Alex Hayes as the newest member of the North International Team! A true adventurer and waterman, Alex embodies the spirit of exploration and innovation, pushing the limits of what’s possible in the world of foiling. At 26 years old, he calls both Sydney and the Gold Coast home, but his true home is the ocean—wherever in the world the best conditions take him.

Alex’s competitive spirit saw him through junior pro surfing, but rather than chasing trophies, his real takeaway from those years was the experiences, travel, and lessons learned along the way.

“I’m naturally super competitive and dislike losing, but I’ve always found it easier to focus on the bigger picture, the experience, rather than just the results.”

Foiling has opened up a whole new world for Alex. Recently, he and fellow foiler Adam Bennett pushed boundaries by foiling a tidal river wave, a mind-blowing experience that unlocked even more potential for where foiling can go next.

His biggest challenge? Convincing hardcore surfers to embrace the foil. 
“It’s a tough one because the hardest thing is to convince a great surfer to become a kook again, and unlearn certain foundations, but once you get over that difficult stage and feel the foil, you will never want to surf again.”

Beyond Foiling: A Life of Adventure.

Alex isn’t just about pushing limits in the ocean. He’s drawn to extreme sports like skydiving, cliff jumping, and anything that delivers an adrenaline rush. “I guess it’s the intense feeling of being fully present in the moment and the adrenaline rush that comes with pushing those limits.”


When he’s not riding waves or free-falling from the sky, Alex has another passion: music. A DJ on the side, he’s found the perfect balance between travel, nature, and sharing music along the way.

Looking Ahead

Alex is not just here to have fun—he’s on a mission to inspire. “My goal is simply to inspire others to believe in themselves and trust their own potential. If people can do that, they’ll be amazed at what they can achieve.”


With North and Mystic supporting his journey, Alex is set on expanding his reach and growing as a leading figure in the foiling world. His favorite gear? The SF530, which he describes as “so fun from 1 foot to 6 foot,” and the 680, his all-around favorite.
