North Windsurfing Dominates DEFI WIND

Defi Wind 2026 made one thing clear: North Sails Windsurfing is here to lead the future of racing.

With more than 2250 competitors across Windsurfing, Wing and Kite disciplines, Defi Wind once again proved why it is the ultimate test for riders and equipment alike. Windsurfing remained by far the biggest category, with an incredible fleet of 1400 competitors battling on the legendary Gruissan racecourse.

AMADO VRIESWIJK DOMINATES THE FOIL DIVISION
North team rider Amado Vrieswijk delivered a near-perfect performance in the Foil discipline, winning 4 out of 5 races in some of the most extreme conditions imaginable. Five brutal races. 40 kilometers each. Up to 40 knots of wind. A true survival test for both rider and equipment.

Amado’s speed, control and consistency were unmatched throughout the entire event, marking a dream start into the 2026 racing season.

“I am unbelievably happy with this start to the season. After winning the Speed World Title, I came into Defi with a really strong feeling and a lot of confidence. In these extremely long races, your equipment has to work 100%. And that’s exactly what my North Prisma Foil 4.5 delivered: incredibly light, amazing control and insane speed. I’m truly proud to have achieved this victory together with the entire North team.”

PIERRE MORTEFON TAKES BRONZE IN THE FIN DIVISION

The North team also made a massive statement in the Fin division. French superstar Pierre Mortefon showed incredible pace throughout the event and finished the Defi with a spectacular victory in the final race, securing overall bronze in one of the toughest racing fleets in the world.

“I was unbelievably fast, but had some bad luck in a few starts. That can happen with 1400 people on one starting line. I’m super happy to show in the last race that I am more than competitive.”
